**A Beautifully Mismatched Collection of Six Antique Decorative Books**
Six wonderfully characterful antique books, gathered together for their richly colored bindings, intricate botanical designs, faded gilt ornamentation, and irresistible Victorian charm.
Deep forest green, warm terracotta, dusty plum, muted brown, and charcoal create a beautifully harmonious collection. Each book has its own personality, with decorative spines that look lovely displayed together.
**The six books included:**
1. **Guy Mannering** — Waverley Novels, Sir Walter Scott. Green cloth with black botanical decoration and gilt lettering.
2. **Middlemarch** — George Eliot. Warm terracotta cloth with delicate floral ornamentation.
3. **Goethes Werke, Volumes 9–10** — Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Dusty plum and gold (damaged) decorative spine with marbled boards.
4. **Vanity Fair** — William Makepeace Thackeray. Deep green cloth with elaborate gilt floral decoration. There may be minor scruff marks or scratches on the outside cover but no other damage or wear is present.
5. **The Antiquary** — Waverley Novels, Sir Walter Scott. Brown decorative binding with black botanical motifs. Foxing to the pages, unable to date exactly.
6. **Our Mutual Friend** — Charles Dickens. Charcoal cloth with gold title panel and subtle botanical designs. 1885 Date written inside, some loose pages.
**The Beauty of Victorian Bookbinding**
During the Victorian era, publishers transformed ordinary books into miniature works of decorative art. Richly colored cloth bindings, elaborate stamped botanical patterns, and shimmering gilt ornamentation made books as beautiful to display as they were to read. These volumes capture that wonderful tradition of decorative bookmaking.
**Condition**
These are genuine old books showing considerable age and wear, including rubbed and bumped corners, worn cloth, fraying, discoloration, aged pages, and distressed spine ends. Some written greetings inside covers, patina to the pages.
The Goethe volume has particularly noticeable damage and fraying at the spine ends. Other volumes also show wear consistent with their age.
These are antique decorative books, not pristine collector's editions. Their imperfections are part of their authentic character.

Returns
